BC Beat Mission
BC Beat is a catalyst for collaboration and artistic development between choreographers, writers, composers, and creative performing artists—with emerging and TONY Award-winning choreographers taking to the stage and dance floor together. Connections are rooted in action, ignited through bold investigation, and established in the freedom and access of the dance floor.
BC Beat is intentionally focused on narrative-driven choreography across all genres of dance. It offers artists an opportunity to practice and hone individual craft and style. The experience fosters genuine support, communication, and excitement across artistic disciplines and among the creative architects, performing artists, and audiences of musical theatre and dance.
The evening centers on the intersection of dance and music as a narrative tool, including composers and writers not just as observers, but as collaborators and community—thinking, talking, and celebrating the fusion of choreography with music and theatrical storytelling.
BC Beat has been cited as the initiation point for the newest generation of choreographers, including:
Lauren Yalango-Grant & Christopher Grant (Broadway's Parade, The Lost Boys),
The Kuperman Brothers (Broadway's The Outsiders),
Mayte Natalio (Broadway's How to Dance in Ohio, Suffs),
Rickey Tripp (Broadway's A Wonderful World),
Karla Puno Garcia (Emmy for choreographing The Tony Awards),
Daniel J. Watts (Three Summers of Lincoln), and more.
They came together again and again at BC Beat, sharing work alongside Broadway's best:
Camille A. Brown,
Andy Blankenbuehler,
Sonya Tayeh,
Steven Hoggett,
Lorin Latarro, and more!
BC Beat is the connection point between creative eras and a spark for the next. It is a place that intentionally grows from a foundation of history, respect, and bold curiosity. While the blending of generations is purposeful, the shared focus on narrative-driven work and experimentation transforms traditional mentorship into something more dynamic—a space of genuine connection and shared growth among all artists.
